The Beast In My Hallway

A good friend of mine is moving from the country into town this week.  You may remember my trip to her lovely country "mansion" on a snowy day this past spring (click here, the mailbox is hers).  Well, since they were downsizing considerably they decided they didn't need their piano anymore.  So can you guess what the beast is in my hallway?

That's right, she gave us their piano!  It is definitely loved, needs to be re-finished, and has a twang in the notes that I know shouldn't be there, but it's fabulous otherwise.  The problem then became - where do we put it?  So of course, the great furniture and belongings migration began.

We knew we had to get rid of a couple of pieces that had been hanging around WAY too long.  There was a spare loveseat and an extra armchair that are both in storage now until the cabin is complete.  After we shifted things here and shuffled things there I finally decided on a layout that I liked.

Now I just have to get Mr. Confessions to find a new home for that giant TV!  It sort of isn't the same "feel" as the rest of the room.  *grin*  Do you think he'll buy that excuse?  .....  I didn't think so either.  Oh well, a girl can dream.  I was even able to keep the room tidy for a whole 20 minutes while I took some photos and looked at it lovingly.  Now to call the piano tuner and see if he can come sooner than later!

Enjoy your day!  I'll be sitting and staring at the picture of my tidy room since it is probably the last time it will look that way for ages!

Love the photo of how you set your new lovely piece. We just gave our piano away in early spring. Took a dozen or more men to move it as it had a marble base - dated 1878 it was a museum piece.

I have seen them mounted above the fireplace...just not as big! Good luck.

I used to play the piano many moons ago! Pianos always make a room feel inviting, I guess inviting people to come have a tickle of the keys! Do you play?

I had to look twice to see the TV...

Oh what an awesome gift to receive. I love the piano, and although I can't play, I love plunking around on one. Looks great!

Lucky you to get such a nice gift. We had an old, heavy upright piano in our downstairs while the kids were young and taking piano lessons. But after they moved away, our piano had to find a new home. A neighbor got a nice gift too. They are so HEAVY. There's a lot of cast iron inside the old uprights.

Your room looks like a comfortable, lovely place to sit and relax.

Your piano looks lovely in your living room - we have a Beast in the Bonus room that is competing for attention with a 60" TV and a big leather lazy boy couch and I'm trying to move my sewing stuff up there - its a little crowded to say the least!!!!
