A Beautiful Evening

It has been a crazy bunch of evenings this past week.  Every day is just about as hot as we can stand, and every evening the thunder clouds build, and build, and build until they blow a gasket over the countryside in our area.

Hail, "fat rain" (which is what Mr. Confessions calls it), the booming and clapping of thunder which you think is the worst you've heard until the next night's show, and then a calm and lovely sunset.  The sun is (as per usual) setting in the west, and the storms that just passed through are the dark black sky in the east.  Everything is glistening with the previous onslaught of precipitation - all the more reason for photos!

I was out snapping pictures as quick as the camera could refocus and take another one when I head chit-chatting from next door.  It turns out that this evening's show had called out the neighbours with their camera too!

In the Spring I watch the farm equipment tour around the field behind the pond, hard at work, and wonder what the crop will be come summer.  It is usually canola, but sometimes it is a grain - both are stunning in the summer sun.  This year, it's canola.  There is no other yellow so vibrant and telling as a summer field of canola.  In the right light, it is almost blindingly bright.

Maybe your weather has been spectacular too this year, but hopefully not devastating (flooding, tornadoes, hail, heat waves, etc).

PS: Don't forget about my giveaway!  Jo Morton stuff all the way!

You DO take the most beautiful outdoor photos... or you have the most beautiful skies, one of the two! I can't even see the sky, let alone a sunset, around my house which is surrounded by large trees. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous pictures. Looks like you'll have a series that are frame-worthy.

Its amazing how crazy the weather has been up north of the city for the past little bit. We had hail two nights ago but it wasn't too bad.

Your pictures are stunning - there is something to be said about being out of the city!!!

Enjoyed your photos Heather! That field of canola certainly is quite spectacular! Sounds as though your summer is very hot this year! We're still shiverig here (at least I am LOL!) in the subtropics with our winter, the westest and cold for many years! Really looking forward to Spring!!!

Beautiful photos of the cloud cover and scenery.
We are just getting heat and lots of wind, so at least it is not pure heat. I am just not used to this much heat, or maybe I am just getting old;)

Being a farmer's daughter and a rural gal, I wondered, what in the world is that bright, bold, gorgeous field in your photos called canola? I've used Canola oil for years, but I had no clue there was a plant with that name. Consider me educated!

I checked Wikipedia, and learned that Canola is a specific plant, a modified version of rapeseed or field mustard with lower acid, originally created by a couple Canadians. And the word Canola comes from the beginning letters in the words "Canadian oil, low acid."
Cool! I didn't expect to expand my scientific knowledge on a quilt blog, but that's just what I did. Thanks, Heather!

I"m so glad the sun was still setting in the west!!! You would have problems if it set in another direction! :)
It has been like that here too. I"m so ready for it to cool off! (and not all the lightening/thunder/rain!)
