I went to Canmore! Canmore? You ask. What's the big deal? Well, if you have not visited, Canmore is the first town into the Rockies on the Trans-Canada Hwy. Nestled deep in the nook of some beautiful, skyscraping, mountains you will find this delightful alpine village, a dreamy place to spend the day or weekend or even to live there. Last Friday was the set-up for this year's Rocky Mountain Quilter's Guild Quilt Show, and yours truly was there to dabble one of my favourite quilting activities (besides quilting itself) - merchandising!
I was asked by the owners of the local quilt shop in Airdrie to help with the set-up and merchandising of their booth at the quilt show. It was a nice drive and a lovely evening (a bit chilly though, however, being in the mountains this late in the fall season often means cold nights). And boy did we hustle our hineys to get everything done!
One of the owners, Sharon, and I used our dual-brain power to lay out the table and prop design, and then I had at 'er. Sharon plopped stuff on tables, and I went around after her setting up items, tilting this, leaning that, adding something over here, moving something over there. It was a blast!
And in the end, it was beautiful (if I do say so myself)! The shop carries many different lines of fabrics, but has a focus on reproduction and civil war. All of the newest Jo Morton fabrics were bundled up and many other beautiful fabrics were put into kits and set together with patterns.
After this, we made a quick stop for some snacks, went to our hotel room and overdosed on the TLC TV show "Say Yes to the Dress". Fun! Sharon stayed for the weekend to attend the booth and I dashed back home to do some geocaching. Apparently it was a very successful weekend for them! Great news Sharon!
If you are in the area, can visit the Material Girls Quilt Co. in Airdrie, Alberta. In the meantime, check your local newspaper or listings for the next guild quilt show - great work and all by locals, maybe even people you know! Happy stitching!
