There is a wonderful antique 'mall' in the city near us. I don't think it's that bad that the owner knows me by name, right? I can always find something there to call my new old thing, so it's not a place I frequent very often (wink-wink-nudge-nudge). However, over the holidays I was wandering through and found a lovely item that I knew would be perfect in my dining room.
I just couldn't say no! I was with my Mom-in-law, who saw me with a bowl that goes with my cherry blossom pink china set, as we walked up to the till. I started to chat with the owner and MIL decided it would be a good time to take Little Miss out to the van to stay out of trouble while I paid. Time passed and I eventually made it out to the van, but without a shopping bag.
MIL looked at me rather confused and asked, "Oh, where's your bowl?" To which I replied, "I didn't end up getting it." At this point I was re-arranging the seating in the van and shifting things in a big way, so her face was looking even more confused with a furrowed brow. She quietly asked, "So what are you doing?" I laughed and exlaimed, "I bought a cupboard instead!"
Her face was priceless! Confused shock, changing to joy and excitement, then to worry and concern about how it was going to fit in the van. We had a good laugh over the situation re-counting it later that evening when telling my FIL about it!
And it IS perfect! Not too big, not too small, and it has a double plate groove so it shows of my china pieces well. I used the lower cupboard space for extra pieces of china, platters, candle sticks, and some other kitchen items... And there is still more room!
MIL helped me unload it at home and move things around to get it all set up. Then, she stayed to see Mr. Confession's face upon arriving home since I didn't tell him I bought it! No complaints, so all's well! My dishes help things to feel a little more "Spring-like" around here. It's still terribly cold and the Arctic air mass hasn't decided to give it up yet. Brrrrr!

Beautiful and what an awesome find! Love the China too! My Grandma had the same set and seeing your display brought back memories of Gramas cooking and the many delicious meals I ate off those pretty dishes as a child
It's a pretty hutch and seems just perfect for your dishes. That Mr. CC didn't get upset by your spur-of-the-moment purchase says volumes about his amiable disposition. Great choice of furniture, and great choice of husband!
Lovely buy Heather. Everything looks gorgeous.
Oh, it is so pretty. The combination of the pink and green dishes is perfect in the piece.
Exceptional find! It so sets off your collection and so springy and light. Just love it!
It's perfect Heather!!! I have been wanting a piece like that for years but they are either way too big or a bit ugly/poor condition!!
It shows off your china and glass ware beautifully and creates a real homey look!!! Great purchase!!!!
