Eureka Quilt Show

I'm still processing all that has gone on since I left for Eureka, Montana last Thursday.  It was a lovely trip and I had a great time shopping (no I didn't break the bank), meeting folks, and watching my Mom discover things she loved too.  The drive was fantastic and is still one of my favourite parts of going on the trip in the first place!

The view from a rest pull-over along Hwy 22 in Southern Alberta looking South.  Gorgeous rangeland, warm breezes, and fresh air.

Another roadside rest stop just North of Fernie B.C. on Hwy 3.  The tunnel is just a short one and is cut through the rock instead of removing the rock and creating an unstable slope so close to the river.  A beautiful view in all directions.

We arrived in Montana just before dinner, popped over to the LQS (Jodi's), had some delicious food at "The Cutting Board" (home of the famous Bubba Burger), and then checked into our accommodations.  The weather in Montana changes quickly just like at home.  Sunsets were inspiring, cloudy moments were breathtaking, and everything in-between was just plain lovely.

Sunset from our room on the first night.

Weather fast approaching during the eve of our second night.

The horse doesn't seem to mind what is coming our way, so we sat and chatted with a neighbouring visitor until it was too chilly to stay outside.  I'm not sure it actually even rained, only threatened.

Friday morning we were up bright and early to head into Whitefish and Kalispell to see how much of a dent we could make in our pre-determined shopping lists.  Some great bargains were had, and my fave store is still Camas Creek Yarns.  I think it's one of my Mom's now too, or at least awfully close to the top of her chart!

Saturday morning we were on the main street by 9:30, found a shade covered parking spot, and, with camera in hand, made our way through town enjoying all the fabulous work everyone had entered this year.  We started our walk at the top of the 'hill' in town in the Veteran's Park.  Instantly Mom was ooo-ing and aaw-ing!  And then suddenly there was a yelp, a grown, and a mystified sigh.  What on earth had happened?  I followed the noise and found her wooing a quilt...  "Come home with me" she begged, to which it answered, "Pick me!".  Funnily enough, that was the actual name of the quilt, and lo-and-behold it was for sale.  Guess what is sitting next to me on the bed as I type?  Indeed, Mom caved and came home with a Jackie Robinson (Animas Quilts and fabric designer for Maywood Studios).  That's right, designed, pieced, and owned by Jackie herself and now, my Mother.

In the Historic Village area of town things were buzzing with people passing through, making quilting supply purchases, and chit chatting about the wonderful morning.  It was a great day for the show, not a cloud or a drop of rain!  Which was fabulous after the looming clouds from the eve before!

Our favourite quilt was one by Carole Gordon of Fortine, Montana.  All hand applique, hand quilting, and all perfect.  We were totally amazed.  I am fairly certain others voted for it to be the best one in the show too!  Unfortunately the quilt was hung sideways - oops!  The top (as I'm sure you'll notice) is to the left.

Next year is already on the calendar and we're excited to attend a Judy Niemeyer workshop South of Kalispell at her retreat center.  My how the year fills up fast!
