The Deal No Husband Should Make

I'll admit it, I'm a terrible housekeeper.  I'd pretty much rather be doing anything else and housework seems to get the short end of the stick every time - the broomstick that is.  In a pinch I can blitz-clean our main floor (we live in a 2-story) to have company over.  And our family and friends seem to know that a "lived-in" look is the general everyday atmosphere around here.  Don't get me wrong, it's clean, just not always spotlessly tidy.

I'm usually one who will not turn down a good thing when I see it.  The latest good thing came in the form of a deal/bet my hubby made with me this past week.  Our bedroom is the bomb when it comes to last on the list for the tidy-up fairy.  This is more like an A-bomb, not a hip and trendy catch-phrase for 'the best' type bomb.  That's right, in short, a mess.  So, Mr. Confessions, one quiet evening a few nights ago, said to me, "I have a deal for you...  While I'm away next week, if you clean our room to spotless by the time I get back, I would buy you any bed (set) you want when I get home."  Surprised, but sensing a good thing, I took the deal, made a quick shake on it, and started dreaming.

That's right, he said any.  He actually said any colour, any style, from any store.  Let the cleaning begin!

The next day I went out and grabbed the catalogues of some of the furniture and accessories shops in the city, and began leafing through pages of wonderfully staged rooms getting ideas.

While I was at Pottery Barn in the city I saw this sheet set/duvet cover on display on one of their bedroom sets (The Hudson).  I instantly fell in love with it, but didn't buy it thinking I should wait and make sure everything goes to plan first.  However, I couldn't get it out of my head, so needless to say I went back to get it and have decided to use it as the basis for much of the colour scheme in the room.

Then, after many hours on the Internet looking at the different bedroom suites that are suppliers to Ethan Allen and McArthur's Fine Furniture and the Hudson set from Pottery Barn, I decided on these two.  One is the aforementioned Hudson and the other is the Prairie Bed from Stickley fine furniture that we have to buy through McArthur's.

Well, Mr. Confessions left this afternoon.  He has no idea what he's in for when he returns.  I will be picking up the paint tomorrow and I have a few anonymous helpers to give me a hand through the week.

I have since decided that even though I really relate to the Hudson bedroom set from Pottery Barn, my heart is with the Prairie Bed by Stickley and this is the one I will likely order (the price tag is ridiculous, but he did say any).  The rest of the bedroom suite furniture will come from Faveri's Unfinished Wood, a local Calgary business that has many supplies including one from British Columbia that makes solid oak furniture in the mission style - helllllo bedside tables and dresser!

Wish me luck folks!  I'll post more pics as things progress and if Mr. Confessions is reading...  Thank you for making another deal you knew you would lose!
