May Is Mail Month

It seems that for whatever reason, May has turned out to be a rather successful month for the postal services in the U.S. and Canada when it comes to delivering items my way.  And who doesn't love mail!?  I've learned a thing or two from my 3-year-old daughter about the mail, and most of it has to do with sheer excitement at an envelope addressed to me - unless it's junk or a bill.  I mean REAL mail.  Personalized.  To me.  Aren't you getting excited just thinking about a package that might be on it's way to you right now?

Well, today, not only was the post office (we live in a small town and have to go to the post office to get the mail, no community delivery here) an exciting trip, but Fed Ex was also at my door today!

In May of 2008 my beloved Grandfather passed away in his 90th year.  He was a wonderful man with a wisened face and a quiet heart.  I have such fond memories of many of the things we did together.  The twinkle in his eye as he smiled with love at something I did or said, the trips in the car, visiting the RV trailer, and many others.  In is latter years, he knew his age and health was creaping up on him and became more aware of making sure everyone knew how he felt about them.  Just before he died he bought my Grandmother a set of pearls (necklace and earrings).  My Grandmother declined them at first, but Grandpa didn't care what she said and bought them anyway.  Now that some time has passed, my grandmother doesn't go out as much and isn't as involved with friends and special activites.  So, she re-gifted this special item to me.  Today they arrived on express, insured, and triple boxed, by Fed Ex.  And they're lovely.

Also, I happened to stop at my LQS yesterday and they finally  had the new Schnibbles book in.  I grabbed one and also a couple of fat quarters of the new Jo Morton "Compliments" line.  Then, at the post office I had another package!  A great book that I have been looking for for quite some time now...  The Best of Miniature Quilts (Vol.3).  I was hoping to find volumes 1 and 2 as well, but I have learned that they are out of print now and rather difficult to find.  Oh well.  One is better than none!

And, as if all these wonderful items weren't enough - my Mr. brought home a dozen specialty mini cupcakes from a rather divine bakery in the city.  YUM!  Hello dessert!

Enjoy the rest of the week folks!  I know I certainly will!  It's a darn good thing that all those cupcakes won't make me gain weight on my neck!  I can eat them while I quilt with my pearls on!  Oh goodness!!  What a silly picture that brings to mind!

SOooooo sweet of your grandpa to buy those for your grandma! In MANY WAYS!, as now you can carry on his lovely gesture in a tradition. I know you'll think of them each time you wear them. Great looking cupcakes!
When you were saying you have to go to the po, we have NO MAIL! NONE! NOTTA! Have to get in a boat and go to town to get it or have someone bring it to us.... so most things are about 3 weeks late.

Wow Heather -- you had a bonanza of things happening. what a sweet thing your grandpa did. And, your grandma too for that matter.

Um, I notice you are missing a couple of the cupcakes... did you share them with us, your readers? I'm checking my mailbox but don't see anything but bugs in mine... they look yummy. See you around Smallquilttalk. Bonnie in the Poconos.
