My Surprise Revealed

As you may remember from reading below, I finished off with a literary hook enticing you to return and see what exactly it was that Mr. Confessions found for me on our Thanksgiving getaway.  The sun was shining this morning, and the item couldn't have looked more lovely in the early daylight so I figured it was the perfect time for some pictures.
There is a small antique shop that carries all sorts of things, large and small, very near Starbucks in Canmore.  Every time we are in the area, the store is closed.  Thus I am only able to look through the windows and drool over everything through the glass.  Not so great for the window cleaner I'm sure, but a gal has to get her antique fix somehow!  Well, on this trip, it was finally open!  And Mr. Confessions found a very special item indeed!
It is a little "loved" and slightly worn around the edges, but that just makes it all the more dear and vintage.  It's rather hard to disguise in photos, so I'm sure you've figured it out...  An early model portable Singer sewing machine!  Hooray!  And it still works!
There is a small group of ladies in the area who own these and maintain them on their own, so I will be contacting someone from there soon to see what I can do to make sure it runs smoothly - and to learn how the thread the thing!  It is in definite need of servicing...  Gotta find someone to do that too.
I had a look online to see if there were any details about this model, finding parts (if needed), and locating a manual.  This particular machine is a Singer 128 manufactured in 1936.  I have no idea what it is "worth", but I think Mr. Confessions got it at a fare price of $55 CDN.  Finding the manual and the how to's will be a bit more of a challenge I think!

Off I go to fiddle about with my new toy!
Heather

We have to have our toys, don't we? Yours looks like a wonderful gift from a guy who understands the soul of seamstress. I spent some time wandering through this blog: http://singerfeatherweight221.blogspot.com/
Even though this lady focuses on the model 221 featherweight, she has Singer sewing machine info galore on her blog. Good luck finding the things you need.
Congratulations on owning that little beauty!

Congratulations Heather on obtaining a wonderful piece of sewing history! I know how in love you are with it, I have 7 vintage Singers and I love all of them dearly, inspite of the wrinkles and scars some of them carry!!! The first thing I'd do is get all the electrical wiring checked/repaired, if there are loose or exposed wires you could electrocute yourself! One of mine was a bit dodgy, lucky I didn't play around with it too much before I took it in to someone who was familiar with old machines.
I hope you get many hours of soothing sewing and that you manage to collect a reasonable range of accessories, extra bobbins etc!!! Please keep us posted,....have you chosen a name for your old dear yet?
