Two years ago I bought a Christmas cactus at Home Depot. Not really thinking about the tenderness of the blooms or the shock to the plant, I strolled from the till to the car in a -20°C deepfreeze. Needless to say, the poor darling plant has been scarred ever since.
In the two years that have gone by, it has not died. But that's about all it has accomplished. Until this week! Can you believe it? One smart little bud has decided to stick with it this year and actually bloom!
I am so thrilled! A tiny Christmas miracle. I keep checking on it, turning the pot a little as it grows to keep it from sticking out into the traffic of people passing by, and gingerly watering it all the while giving it a gentle cooing to encourage more such splendid displays of life.
The colour is teriffic and I can't wait to see it fully opened! WOW! Both my orchid and my Christmas cactus bloomed in the same year! Maybe I am growing a green thumb!

Oh, what a beautiful color. Wait until next year now that it is over it's shock!
Very pretty color. I have been looking for different colors and bought a red one this year.
Oh it is beautiful!
Isn't is fun to watch them bloom? I have seven different colors, they bloomn in shifts between Thanksgiving and the end of January. The more I neglect them, and leave them touching chilly windows, the happier they seem to be!
I bet it gets COVERED in blooms for you NEXT year! - Mary
