I have mentioned in previous posts that often the postal service around his is a tad bit slow. Okay, more than a tad bit, but I'm trying to be polite! Today I took a quick walk in the early afternoon heat, with the dog and daughter in tow, over to the post office. And, of course the day I walk there are packages! A special delivery from my Mom and a long awaited pattern from Kathleen Tracy.
I have been waiting since the beginning of the month for the envelope from Kathleen. She has endeavoured to start her own six month mini quilt of the month mail out called The American Schoolgirl Club. The first pattern is adorable and amazingly put together on stiff paper in full colour with excellent directions and a little bit of history for me to enjoy. Thanks Kathy and great job!
What would we do without our mothers? Some of us have our actual mothers still, some have close friends who are mothers to us, or even grandmothers. My Mom is great! I got her hooked on quilting a number of years ago, and now (maybe somewhat sad to say on my step-dad's behalf), I've created a monster! This is in no way a complaint of course (I wouldn't want to put a halt to the random quilty gifts that show up in my mailbox!). And look what arrived today!
This is a 14 piece set of fat quarters from the Nottingham line by Judie Rothermel for Marcus Brothers. It is a reprint (some of them anyway), but gorgeous none-the-less, and slightly different in colour and tone.
Along with the fat quarters was a half yard cut of the large complimentary design and 3 yards of Amish black. Not in the picture is a sweet little package of 10" squares from 1930's backgrounds with delicate pale prints in every colour.
And, as if those lovely items were not enough, there was also a long coveted stack of 200 pre-cut, random 4" quilter's squares. I am a scrap-a-holic when it comes to quilt making and enjoy the scrappy look just as much, if not more, than the regular, planned, colour co-ordinated method. These squares are perfect, and I am already trying to dream up what to do with them!
What a great way to head into the weekend! Thanks Kathy and Mom both for brightening my day and giving me something to look forward to putting together over the next couple of days... I think Kathy's little quilt would look fabulous in Mom's new fabrics!
