I've been feeling under-the-weather for so long now, it's hard to remember what not having a cold/flu bug, an ache, or an exhausting day feels like... This is one of the reasons why I think non-bill-mail brightens my day so much! And this time it was a special delivery from Amazon, and my Mom was once again the reason of this lovely ray of sunshine!
When I went to the post office on my way home from the dentist this morning to grab the mail, I was certainly surprised to see the parcel pick-up card in our box. And look what lovely items were inside! I found this crochet book by looking for a crochet shawl pattern on Ravelry (Don't know Ravelry? The best ever source for all things yarn/roving/spinning) and saw a photo of a lovely item that I just HAD to have. Of course, it wasn't from a regular pattern, it was from a book.
That being said, I figured I'd better just pass it by. I didn't want to buy the whole book for just one pattern. However, my Mom has the same book, but for knitted items and loves it! That being said, take a peak at a few of the pieces you can make from this superb publication!
The next item, another book, is something I have been looking for and interested in for some time now, but I haven't been able to find any patterns or information on this certain topic... Dollhouse quilts. Now, I don't mean quilts for dolls, like the adorable small ones well known for centuries by little girls the world over. The quilts I am referring to are for 1" scale, true to size, real dollhouses.
So, because I thought I would never find a book on this rather interesting and rare topic, seeing this one in my mailbox was a thrill! Again, Blogger is messing around with my photo quality and the pictures are not turning out very well in some cases, so just in case you can't read the author and are interested in such things, her name is Janet Wickell. And to be sure we are clear on the size, I took a few pictures of the projects in the book. They are all paper pieced (thank goodness).
At first glance I was a little confused because I thought the book was missing the pattern piece insert that often comes in quilting magazines; nope, not the case! Upon closer inspection... Well you can see what I saw. And yes, that is my hand, and YES that is the FULL sized, no enlarging required, template needed to complete each block!!
The block in the last photo is the same one used in the small quilt I am in the middle of making from Kathleen Tracy's latest book The Civil War Sewing Circle. A small dollhouse sized one to match might be a fabulous idea! I think the "T" block in Kathleen's pattern is 4" finished.
So many great ideas for new projects, so little time to get to them!! And I have to try and stick with my "Finish-It-First" plan (finish some before starting or buying anything new). It's not to late to join me on this endeavour; click to visit the site!
Hope you find something in your mail this week to bring a little sunshine to your day too!

Just a super book by Janet, you are going to have fun with it.
I love working with teeny tiny blocks! What a great adventure are you are about to get into, they ARE tiny blocks and the only way to get them nice is to foundation paper piece them, good luck Heather! look forward to seeing your very tiny creations!!!
No way I'm making anything that small. LOL. What a nice surprise from your mom. Moms are the best! I love that three ruffle shawl.
